The town of Santa Cruz, California (and the neighboring villages, of Capitola and Aptos) have not yet begun a strategic process of destination management incorporating universal design. But there is the critical mass of talent, experience, and political will necessary for success. What will catalyze it?

Non Profits:
Shared Adventures is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing recreational activities to people with special needs and physical challenges.
Day on the Beach is a twelve year old at tradition Cowell’s Beach. Registerion is open for Saturday July 17th 2004 noon to 5pm.
Access Santa Cruz County takes information access seriously by printing a bilingual Spanish/English directory and a maintaining a Web site.
The Deaf Counseling, Advocacy and Referral Agency provides community services
The Santa Cruz County Friends of the Rail Trail (FORT) joins with neighboring san Benito County and the Monterey region to promote the conversion of railways to outdoor access corridors.

Automation Solutions and Associates, LLC, maker of EasyMover, sponsors numerous accessible events
While medical equipment manufacturers Mentor and Rusch add their corporate sponsorship to activities for people with disabilities.
