Open Green Map Reaches 5,000 Green Sites
At Green Map System, it has been a thrilling few weeks since we launched the Open Green Map and held great events in 13 cities in 10 countries! Hundreds of engaged participants, mayoral proclamations and coverage in all forms of media on 5 continents were among the many happy outcomes. We created a Launch Around the Clock report to help you experience the highlights - click here and enjoy.
The launch was just the beginning! In addition to new green sites and new maps being added on a daily basis, we have added a slew of resources for sharing and promoting this interactive social mapping platform. Want a slideshow or video? Classroom or mapping party guide? Flowchart or icon poster? Thanks to forward-thinking supporters, we have great ways to engage people in your community!
We are discovering how much value we have created as fresh responses come in every day. Here is one example: "The OGM has been a fantastic resource for training and volunteer opportunities. I find that the people I work with on it get really passionate about using Green Map, I've even had two volunteers tell me that they've been loading information on at 4 am!" emailed by Kathy Tate, Project Officer, Sustainable Swansea UK.
Recently honored in the Cause/Affect social design competition, OGM continues to add features. We are particularly excited about our forthcoming mobile phone website and content sharing tools! Open Green Map needs your support to keep making a greater difference to more people every day.
Hands-on Student Internships in NYC
So many students requested summer 2009 Green Map internships that we created a 'semi-independent' internship. Led by Andrew Fenster, a junior at Oberlin College, this training and mentorship program is supporting 7 interns creating their own local Green Maps over an 8-week period this summer, culminating in an exchange of outcomes on August 14th. Follow the story on the project's Blog. Working with Andrew and Bob Zuber, our longtime consultant, we'll be creating a guide for other Green Mapmakers who want to replicate the project locally, too.
The Impacts book is available online (6MB download)
