As I recall, crossing the Chicago River near the Merchandise Mart can be diffiult -- traffic, gusts of wind, obstacles in the curb cuts. Even so, Mario Wallenda's approach never occurred to me.
In a sign that hope trumps experience, a high-wire performer paralyzed in a notorious fall plans to cross the Chicago River on a tightrope 100 feet in the air.Mario Wallenda of the famous "Flying Wallendas" will try to cross the river Tuesday in a specially built electric "sky cycle." Wallenda, 64, will start in front of the Merchandise Mart and travel along a steel cable hoisted between two cranes on each side of the river.
