The "State of the Science Conference on Accessible Transportation" will be held in Portland, Oregon on October 31 and November 1, 2006. The event is sponsored by the National Center for Accessible Transportation at Oregon State University.

State of the Science Conference on Accessible Transportation
October 31 & November 1, 2006 in Portland, ORThis conference will establish a national dialogue on the current state
and future directions of research and development for improving access
to public transportation.
The Conference Objectives are:
• To encourage interaction between industry, government and advocacy
groups
• To identify future research needs and industry gaps
• To discuss state of the art solutions to problems in accessible public
transportation
The conference format will include plenary sessions, paper presentations in breakout sessions, and extensive opportunity for networking and discussion. A goal of the conference will be to develop an agenda for future directions in research, policy, and product development based on user needs for Accessible Transportation.Who should attend: researchers, travel industry representatives,
equipment manufactures, policy makers, product designers, and travelers with disabilities who are interested in improving access to public transportation.The outcomes of the conference will be updated literature on the state of the science in accessibility of public transportation.
Following the state of the Science Conference a two day Showcase of Accessible Transportation in Portland Oregon is planned. The Showcase will include plenary sessions and tours that highlight the fully integrated accessible urban transit infrastructure in Portland, Oregon.
