Tent Pole Events: Valladoilid Nov 2010, Spain

Today starts the 3rd International Congress of Tourism for All in Valladoilid, Spain:
The main theme of the 3rd International Congress of Tourism for All is Cultural Tourism, and the Congress is therefore aimed at professionals in the cultural sector wishing to enhance their participation in the tourism sector, and has as its main goal that of establishing Universal Accessibility and Design for All, with which to promote inclusion of people with [sic] special needs.

"Tent Pole Events" is the phrase we are using to identify the many conferences springing up around the world that address Inclusive Tourism either directly or to a significant and sustained degree indirectly. The metaphor is to a tent being raised with supports scattered around the world. The tent is a space of welcome where those who have long promoted opportunities for travelers with disabilities collaborate with those who are now signing on for the journey to inclusion:
