As part of the wider celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Judith Heumann, the new Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the State Department, has posted a video message (captioned) on the Facebook page of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. You can access the video here: http://www.facebook.com/stateDRL The Special Advisor for International Disability Rights is responsible for leading the Obama Administration's efforts to develop a comprehensive strategy to promote the rights of persons with disabilities internationally; coordinating an interagency process for the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; ensuring that foreign assistance incorporates persons with disabilities; leading on disability human rights issues; ensuring that the needs of persons with disabilities are addressed in international situations; and conducting public diplomacy, including with civil society, on disability issues.
