It is with a sense of pride for my professional colleague and friend Joedson Nunes ("Nunes") that I am able to announce that his entry to the Ashoka Changemaker's 2009 Geotourism Challenge is one of ten finalists.
Even before I noticed that Nunes and his partner at Reality Tours, Solange Barbosa, the project, Route of Freedom - Cultural Tourism collaborating to the "Memory of the African Diaspora in Brazil" captured my imagination:
The Route of Freedom is a Touristic Circuit developed in the region of Vale do Paraiba, North Coast and Mantiqueira Mountains, which maps the paths of black Africans and their descendants in the formation of these regions' cultures. According to a tourism project that follows Unesco's orientations in its worldwide project "Slave Route."Now is the time to vote in the 2009 Geotourism Challenge.
You will find this project listed in English as "Reality Tour Viagens e Turismo Ltda, Brazil."
As Solange and Nunes are able to provide details and photos we will add them here at the Rolling Rains Report.
Since the project organizers participate in our Brazilian Inclusive Tourism network, Rede Turismo para Todos, and the goal of the project is to make a fully inclusive tourism product* I encourage those who find this trip of interest to check back at at RollingRains.com for dates of a guided tour including Scott Rains or others who have been regularly featured in the Rolling Rains Report.
* Note that Nunes' Reality Tour arranged the highly successful May 008 familiarization tour of Parque dos Sonhos for Inclusive Tourism delegates to the REATECH Conference. Click here for Craig Grimes' video of the 1 km zipline:
